Memory orbs
Developed during an artist in residency program with WASPS, The Steeple, Fife, Scotland and in conjunction with Dundee Contemporary Arts., these screenprints are devised of animate plant, ice, and crystal life forms. The artist works through a series of twenty-seven collaged images developed from hundreds of photographs to encapsulate alternate life forms. Applying unregistered colour layers the artist allows what appears to be slight colour slips to create colour blurs and auras aiding in the mysterious nature of the subject matter. Printed on both black and cream coloured paper, the colour ways evoke slightly different responses.
Images 1-16: Memory orbs (mineral, flora and water), 2014-2015, 2x 3 series of 9 (3 editions each), screen print on black and cream Somerset paper, 18cm x 29cm each. Pictured: mineral #1, 2 & 8; flora #1 & 9; water#5, 7 & 8 (images above and below).
This series of postcards evolved out of a social practice which involved communicating abstract ideas of memories to strangers who partook in an unrecorded performance with the artist. Exploring memory through new stories connected to forms, colours, and poetry.
